FROM THE EDITOR – A Short Introduction to the Ezra Magazine Team
Hi everyone. We thought it was about time to introduce ourselves, and tell you a little about us. Thank you to everyone who has helped contribute to this magazine. Ezra started in Decemeber 2012, but didn’t fully begin until February of 2013. It’s brilliant to see how far it has come in such a short period of time, and I hope that we can continue to publish interviews and articles for many years to come.
A Short Summary of Adelaide, Australia.
Adelaide is a relatively small city that was founded in 1836 and it’s the capital of South Australia. It’s grid layout makes it a very easily accessible city, with corresponding lining streets that are North, East, South and West Terrace respectively. Adelaide is completely surrounded by park lands, which is always lusciously green in the winter. With a population just over 1 million people, it is essentially a very large country town. Gouger street is famous for it’s lovely restaurants and The Adelaide Central Market is full of fresh produce and other international cuisines. Everything is ‘just a half hour drive’, and driving for half an hour North will leave you with nothing but open space outside your car windows. With the tallest building in Adelaide being only 31 floors and 132 metres tall, it’s a city that has much growing to do!
Questions For The Team
Editor: Tanysha Bolger Music Journalist: Melina Journalist: Morgan Opinion Writer: Weetyr Goh Journalist: Simon Ruppert Journalist: Laura Phillips
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tanysha: ‘It’s Nice To Be Alive’ by Ball Park Music, it’s such a happy-go-lucky song. I’m probably the same as Melina, ask me in a week and the song will be different! Melina: If you asked me this question tomorrow I would probably have a different answer. But today it is “Forever” by Haim. Morgan: Pure – Bye Bye Blackbird. Weetyr: Random, but probably Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). Simon: Ummm…Dr Dre/Nuthin But a G Thang. Laura: Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader
Do you have any pets? Tanysha: That’s a funny question…1 dog, 2 cats, 3 horses, a turtle and a bird that sits in the office and doesn’t understand the concept of the word ‘quiet’. Melina: A Cat named Tessa. Morgan: Too much responsibility! Weetyr: Not at the moment. Would love a puppy in the future though! Simon: I have three unsociable and very rude cats called Duke, Franklin and Moolah. Laura: Three cats! Tinkerbelle, Cookie and Maddie (I was young and naive- don’t judge the names!)
Biggest inspirational person/piece of writing/event to you.
Tanysha: Annie Leibovitz. Her photography really strikes a cord with me and she’s a very driven woman in terms of being in the business world. Melina: Hayley Williams is a big inspiration to me because she isn’t afraid to be herself and she doesn’t let anything stop her from following her dreams. Morgan: I’m inspired by everyone and everything, constantly – provided it’s a new experience. Weetyr: Maybe…Bridge to Terabithia? I remember thinking how great a book it was after I read it in the early years of high school, and then wanting to write after reading that book! Simon: Biggest inspiration…Hunter S Thompson Laura: As typical as it is, my parents. I can hardly imagine the pain and suffering that they’ve been through yet they’re still the most incredible, generous, happy, loving and humble people I know. To be half the people they are would be an accomplishment.
If you had one chance to speak through a P.A system that everyone in the entire world would hear, what would you say?
Tanysha: If I had to choose it would be something along the lines of, “When you look on the television, read the newspaper and see a photograph of another horrible event that has just happened in a far off country, look for the helpers. There are still people that help, still people that care. Be one of those people. Respect your elders, RESPECT ANIMALS, respect each other and most of all, respect yourself.” Melina: I’ve spent half an hour trying to answer this question and I have no answer!! Morgan: “Is this thing on?” Weetyr: Hello, is it me you’re looking for? Simon: If I could address the whole world I would have to pretend to be god and try to get donations. Laura: “Free chicken for those who do the chicken dance”
Tomato or tomayto?
Tanysha: Tomato. I’m pretty sure that’s the way it’s supposed to be pronounced isn’t it? Melina: Tomato! Morgan: The way it’s supposed to be said! Tomato! Weetyr: TOMATO! And that’s how it should be! Simon: There is only one way to pronounce Tomato! Laura: Tomato of course! Only the finest English for me m’dear.
You’re stuck on an island with just one book, what is it?
Tanysha: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Melina: A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin Morgan: War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy – That’ll keep me occupied. Weetyr: The Bible! Yes, it’s a book! Simon: Id like some kind of island survival book if I Was stuck on an island. Laura: A cookbook on how to prepare wild island food.
Tanysha: Going to be very cliche here and say Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. I can relate a lot to that character. In school, I was always the ‘nerdy’ girl who put her hand up for every question and was always teased. I loved learning and still do, I don’t see why people belittle others for something that can improve you as a person. Melina: Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo because she is such a badass. Morgan: Lord Henry ‘Harry’ Wotton in Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray. He has a witty answer to everything! Weetyr: Why so many book related questions – I barely read! (laughs) I guess Aslan from “The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe” book could be it though. Gentle, loving, yet powerful. Also, a talking lion! Simon: Raul Duke (Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas) I named my cat after him! Laura: Rebecca Bloomwood of Sophie Kinsella’s ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’. It’s like having someone retell my life and thoughts in a best seller! To quote Emily Bronte: “she’s more myself than I am!”
Last day on earth, where are you?
Tanysha: Lying on the beach by a camp-fire under the stars, probably after spending the whole day surfing. Melina: At a beach. Morgan: At a bar, spending every last dollar on expensive and elaborate cocktails I’ve always wanted to try. Weetyr: Malaysia! True home. Simon: I’d be laying on the beach in Byron Bay. Laura: The Cadbury factory: my hearts greatest desire.
If you could summarise your entire life in 5 words, what would they be?
Tanysha: Photography. Music. Kind. Travel. Swimming. Melina: Music. Weird. Food. Gigs. Family. Morgan: Discovery, Taste, Caffeine, Change, Imagine Weetyr: Live, laugh, love out loud. Simon: Me in 5 words? Best is yet to come! Laura: Happy, cats, chocolate, eccentric, lame-joke-teller. (That’s 5 words right?!)
The Team In A Summary
We have solved the question of tomato vs to-may-to. If the world was imploding and we had one day left, we’d pretty much all be lying on a beach somewhere – I don’t know why that is – or in a chocolate factory. We’re a funny bunch but we work together well. Free chicken for those who do the chicken dance!
