R&amp;B and pop-punk were the flavours of the month with Rihanna, Fall Out Boy and Justin Timberlake all releasing new music. So what were the highlights of 2007? Read on to find out!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cUmbrella\u201d was the lead single from Rihanna\u2019s third album \u2018Good Girl Gone Bad\u2019 and has since been covered by various notable musicians. It was originally written for Britney Spears but her label rejected it and Rihanna went on to make it the hottest song of 2007. I can guarantee you that after only one listen you\u2019ll have that addictive hook stuck in your head for days; \u201c<i>Umbrella-ella-ella -eh-eh<\/i>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sAebYQgy4n4?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cMakes Me Wonder\u201d &#8211; Maroon 5<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Oh Adam Levine, how we love you, especially when you\u2019re strutting around in a suit. \u201cMakes Me Wonder\u201d is the first single from Maroon 5\u2019s second album \u2018It Won\u2019t Be Soon Before Long\u2019. The band&#8217;s first number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart captures everything a good pop rock song should be with its funky guitar riffs and catchy melodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Qf9S4N3jJNE?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cLight Up The Sky\u201d- Yellowcard<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">American pop punk band Yellowcard are still going strong since their formation in 1997. What could be just another average band, Yellowcard manage to bring something fresh to the genre with the addition of a violin. \u201cLight Up The Sky\u201d is an uplifting and heartfelt track which intertwines beautiful melodies and punchy guitars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aCyGvGEtOwc?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cMisery Business\u201d &#8211; Paramore<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Manipulation, popularity and boys; what\u2019s not to love about this pop punk number? Hayley Williams delivers a fierce and honest vocal performance on the fast paced track. As all Paramore fans would know \u201cMisery Business\u201d has become a tradition at the band\u2019s live shows asWilliams pulls a fan on stage during the bridge to belt out the rest of the song. I\u2019m still waiting for my turn Hayley!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ma9I9VBKPiw?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cFluorescent Adolescent\u201d &#8211; Arctic Monkeys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">While it may not have been a chart topper,\u201cFlorescent Adolescent\u201d is one of the Arctic Monkeys\u2019 most popular songs. Taken from their second album \u2018Favourite Worst Nightmares\u2019,Alex Turner\u2019s lyrics are as witty and risqu\u00e9 ever. \u201c<i>You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in your nightdress\u201d,<\/i> hmmm whatever could you be referring to Alex?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IC8qPpnD0uE?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cWhat Goes Around\u2026Comes Around\u201d &#8211; Justin Timberlake<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Don\u2019t deny it, everyone loves Justin Timberlake. We\u2019re ecstatic that he has announced an Australian tour for 2014, so in the meantime lets return to \u2018FutureSex\/LoveSounds\u2019. \u201cWhat Goes Around\u2026Comes Around\u201d was considered to be a sequel to \u201cCry Me A River\u201d by music critics and fans. Timberlake shows off his falsetto in this powerful ballad about betrayal and forgiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k6EQAOmJrbw?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cTeenagers\u201d \u2013 My Chemical Romance<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">My Chemical Romancewas one of the most influential bands of the last decade and they just recently called it quits after 12 years. Their iconic song \u201cTeenagers\u201d deals with some tough issues such as gun violence. Gerard Way says, \u201cIt&#8217;s about a really big problem in America where kids are killing kids. The only thing I learned in high school is that people are very violent and territorial\u201d, heavy stuff indeed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2EwViQxSJJQ?feature=player_detailpage&amp;w=640&amp;h=360]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cIrreplaceable\u201d -Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201cIrreplaceable\u201d, taken from Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s second album \u2018B&#8217;Day\u2019, was the best-selling US single of 2007. Ne-Yo originally wrote the song as a country track but when presented to Beyonc\u00e9 was changed to an R&amp;B pop ballad. David Grohl described &#8220;The Pretender&#8221; as &#8220;a stomping Foo Fighters up-tempo song, with a little bit of Chuck Berry in it\u201d. Incorporating elements of funk and soul, Patrick &#8220;This Ain&#8217;t A Scene, It&#8217;s an Arms Race&#8221; sees the band experimenting with different musical styles.
