Every year the Adelaide Fringe provides venues and locations for various performers and artists to show Adelaide the best of what they’ve got. In “A Nightmare On Love Street”, Kurt Phelan and Branden Christine prove that low-budget stage plays can be not only hilarious but brilliantly composed and executed professionally. Held in ‘La Petite Grande’, “A Nightmare On Love Street” unites lovers of classic horror movies with a twist of beat-boxing and luscious love.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The show is set around two characters called Freddy and Carrie (Phelan<\/em> and Christine<\/em>), who re-enact famous scenes from five horror films that the audience chooses at the start. Films such as ‘Poltergeist’, ‘The Evil Dead’, ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ are just some of the films made available to choose from. Switching between their lives as Freddie and Carrie and their re-enactments, when things get a little too saucy they use the safe word ‘Pineapple’, respectively, then break out into a beat-boxing bonanza.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What was so refreshingly exhilarating about the show was the passion and energy that was harnessed by Phelan and Christine. The ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Freddy rap was executed brilliantly, Phelan definitely knows how to convey imagination through physical action.\u00a0<\/span>The interaction between\u00a0themselves combined with the audience keeps the pace fast and energetic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Using an array of props and brilliant comedic timing, ‘A Nightmare On Love Street’ is a show that will have you in stitches. Whilst it is a low-budget play, it is brilliant to see two actors give it their all and execute a brilliant performance at the Adelaide Fringe in 2014. We look forward to hopefully seeing them back here next year.<\/span><\/p>\n
