It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner it’s time to turn up those festive jingles. You’ll hear them on loop in the mall, on the radio, and loudly from the neighbour’s backyard. There is no escaping Christmas. So don’t be a Grinch and embrace the jolliest time of the year. Love or hate them, here are ten songs to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays – N’SYNC

No matter how corny you think this song is I guarantee it will put you in a good mood. There is nothing better than a boy band releasing a Christmas song. I am shocked that it onlycharted at number 37 on the Top 40. Who doesn’t like N’SYNC?!

All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was released the same year I was born and I think I have probably heard it every Christmas since. Mariah is just too cute frolicking around in the snow. Oh how I wish I lived in the northern hemisphere.

Yule Shoot Your Eye Out – Fall Out Boy

What’s Christmas without a song about your horrible ex? In true punk rock fashion Fall Out Boy sing about the joys of breaks up in December. It may not be the happiest festive tune but you couldn’t expect anything else from Fall Out Boy.

Santa Baby – Taylor Swift

I searchedhigh and low for the best “Santa Baby” cover and it was a difficult feat. Amongst all the sensual covers was Taylor’s sweet, country rendition. While she may have taken a pop direction with her music this cover shows Taylor at her best.

What Christmas Means To Me – Stevie Wonder

If motown is your thing then Stevie Wonder is here. “What Christmas Means To Me” was first recorded for his 1967 Christmas album‘Someday at Christmas’.

Last Christmas -Wham!

I fought an internal battle with myself about including this song but Wham! won in the end. Half of me hates it because it’s so ridiculously cliché and the other half of me can’t stop singing it. You won this year Wham! but there’s always next year.

Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney

Music critics consider this to be one of McCartney’s poorest compositions. They wereeither lacking in Christmas spirit or they just disliked the terrible music video. Funky sounding synths in a Christmas song.I’m on your side McCartney.

Got Something for You – Best Coast and Wavves

Best Coast and Wavves teamed up in 2011 to create this lo-fi track for a Target Christmas album. Their talent is way beyond cheap compilations albums. This song is different from the glossy Christmas songs we are used to.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas -Perry Como

For us poor Aussies our Christmas doesn’t resemble Como’s vision in the slightest. Snow? Holly? Silver lanes aglow? But don’t lie, you’ve sung this song in an exaggerated voice while melting in 30 degree heat.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Relient K

American rock band Relient K put a spin on the Christmas classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. The band love December 25th so much they have released two Christmas albums. This song will make even The Grinch smile.
