Adelaide’s Hidden Gem
In the heart of the city, there are various venues that capture the eye of a passer by – but La Boheme is a little different. Walking down Grote street opposite the central markets, you would assume that the eclectic shop fronts keep no secrets, but with that assumption you would be strikingly wrong.
Their chairs and tables line the side-walk, the first hint of your Parisian encounter. Not knowing what La Boheme was like, I stepped inside to what seemed like another world. The walls are lined with photographs, the ambience slightly dark; emulating the Parisian culture that exists thousands of miles away. The room radiating red everywhere I looked, and the soft, amber hue from a vintage chandelier hung above the counter; Paris was calling.
Having been to Paris before, their inspirations for the venue are truly spectacular. On a Wednesday night, you wouldn’t think something like La Boheme was churning away in the city. With the red tea-lights lined upon the tables, accentuating the romantic tone of the room; it was easy to forget that the night-life of Adelaide still existed outside the front doors. Having a sweet taste for Jazz music but never having the chance to listen to it live, I was well and truly won over by New Cabal. The solos and the intimate beats were truly harmonic, with keyboarder Brendan Foster from Melbourne leading the band’s soulful tune, and the truly marvellous Jason McMahon on the saxophone sent the music undulating with rhythm around the room.
If you’re looking for a night out on a Wednesday night and love to listen to Jazz music, I recommended wandering into La Boheme for a truly relaxing and soulful night. With Free entry it is honestly hard to say no to!
